2011 MEDICAL MISSION - HATTIEVILLE, BELIZE

The mission team was under the direction of Dr. Robert Mahaffey. Gerry Lynn organized the mission’s physical set-up and daily schedules. We were allowed to conduct our activities in a government school building in the small village of Hattieville.

There were 28 individuals comprising our team; 2 from Texas, 2 from Louisiana, 1 from Arkansas, 1 from Oklahoma City, and the remaining 22 were from the Tulsa/Broken Arrow area. There was one doctor, a nurse practitioner, five nurses, a student nurse, an optician, a student in optical studies, a pharmacist, nine Bible teachers, and eight general support workers. Our group included four teenagers.

Each morning we arrived at the clinic by 9:00 a.m. and began registering patients. Each one was offered a Bible study before being seen for treatment in the medical area. The patients were then directed to the pharmacy to receive free medications that were prescribed for them, or they were given free glasses if needed. We received patients Monday through Friday until 4:00 p.m. During the week 890 medical services were rendered to the Belize people, 507 medical patients and 383 for the optician. We had 581 adults and 309 children come to us for help.

After the clinic closed each afternoon, the teens conducted a Vacation Bible School for the neighborhood children. VBS was followed each evening with a preaching service at 6:00. As a result of the various studies, 8 precious souls were baptized into Christ during the week.
