History of Mission Forum

The Broken Arrow church has long been known for our evangelistic efforts outside of the local area. The Broken Arrow church of Christ sponsored it first mission work in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1955. During the next 19 years, the congregation was involved in a variety of mission activities, ranging from several small towns in Oklahoma such as Red Bird and Red Oak to overseas efforts in Rio Bravo, Mexico to Rome, Italy and other nations.

In 1975, the elders of the Broken Arrow congregation and Lee Peters, the minister at that time made the decision to take the gospel of Christ to the more than 8,000 major cities in the United States without a church.

To do this, our church leaders decided to sponsor an annual special event, then known as Forum USA. The Forum provided a meeting place for other congregation’s to find missionaries interested in U.S. mission work. For our own efforts in that work, the elders established a special Forum contribution.

At that time, mission efforts (most of them international) were funded from the congregation’s regular weekly budget. Forum USA’s one-time annual gift was dedicated to U.S. missions. Through the years, Forum USA successfully boosted interest in U.S. as well as foreign mission work. As the program progressed, the elders decided to change the emphasis to all types of mission activities. The event’s name was changed to Mission Forum, with the special contribution dedicated to domestic, international and medical mission efforts.

On this day, our members give or pledge monies to be used solely for the purpose of mission work. During the last 31years $1.7 million have been given by this congregation to accomplish this task.

Each year our goal exceeds $100,000. Thanks to the congregation's generous support, we often exceed this amount.
